Great Pyrénées, 2023.
Graphite, cool and warm toned ink and colored pencil on canvas mounted palimpsest paper collage.
50 x 50 cm.
A collector contacted me requesting a commissioned painting based on a photograph she provided. A photo of a Great Pyrenees shepherd dog poking its head out of a livestock transport wagon. She
loves this breed and has one of her own as a household companion.I liked the mostly monochrome, nearly black and white appearing image and thought that a stark white technical background would do
well in this case to add interest to the regular, repeating motif of steel cutout portal windows.
The accompanying process video demonstrates the creation of the piece from start to finish, including the preparation of the palimpsest collaged paper, following on to the digital tracing of the
subject matter and its subsequent transfer to the surface of the sheet. From there the image is rendered with felt tipped ink pens over the graphite guide lines with a touch of colored pencil.
Some close-up photos of details of the piece in progress
